Good morning,

Cant believe that its been almost a month since I have posted anything. Shame on me!!! I just finished Vicki's barn quilt. It is such a sweet little quilt. She has the pattern at her shop--Back Porch Quilts n Fabrics. This quilt measured up at 62 x 72. Perfect lap size or even a great wall hanging. Thanks for taking a peek.

Daphne!!!

I finished "Daphne" today. This is what was left of some of the blocks I had found after mom passed. There was enough Pansy blocks to make 2 large quilts. There was also enough of the 3 flower blocks to make 2 quilts. With each having 4 leftover blocks this is what dh and I came up with. Made a 48 x 48 lap/baby quilt. What size quilt is required for a particular bed? SIMPLE QUESTION, NOT A SIMPLE ANSWER.
Making a custom quilt starts with size. Size also has the greatest impact on quilt cost.
Who would have thunk? Sizing a quilt requires 7 specific dimensional values with 12 possible combinations. That's 84 chances to make a mistake and mis-size the quilt.

• We have developed an automatic program that calculates the finished quilt length and width.

•The Calculator is live and interactive. Just put in the numbers and it will tell you the finished size needed.

•There are also reference charts for standard bed sizes and pillow sizes to assist.

•Additional drawing references to show what each of the dimensions refer to as applied to a bed as we've used the terms are included..

Here is a picture of the free calculator you have access to at camlynquilts.com. Just enter the specific bed information and select the design parameters (true or false). Out pops the final quilt size. Our gift to start off the new year. It works well for us and we hope you find it as useful.

There are numerous variables to properly sizing a bed quilt.

Starting with 3 basic dimensions: 1) mattress length, 2) mattress width and 3) mattress height. We've included useful charts for standard mattress width and length dimensions but height is just something that has to be measured. Mattress height "generally" defines quilt "overhang". As such the minimal amount of overhang added for width to the quilt becomes 2 times the mattress height added to the mattress width. 4) Additional Overhang. Do we want additional overhang to overlap a bedskirt? Do we want it to hang all the way to the floor? The amount of overhang has to be absolutely established by the customer and measurements physically made to be sure. 5) Footboard. Quilt length is adjusted if the bed does not have a footboard. Without a footboard, the same "overhang" variables apply to the length (but the overhang is not doubled when calculating quilt length). 6) Pillow tuck. Is the quilt going to cover the pillows? Pillow tuck (the amount under the pillow) and the length added due to the height of the pillow — now get involved in the calculation. 7) Shrinkage. Should probably be more specific that this is laundry shrinkage as there is size shrinkage also involved in the quilting process. If the quilt is only going to be dry-cleaned, than laundry shrinkage is not a factor. If it is going to be laundered than shrinkage is an important sizing variable.

New Website up and running, need some feedback!

Hello everyone,

Last time you heard from me was when I got "hacked", think I have that fixed and have been waiting to see if all systems were a go!!

We got this last week from one of our new Bobbin Mate customers--I knew I loved mine but it was so good to hear great feedback..

OMG - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these things. It is all about working smarter, not harder. No more trying to match threads - just grab the spool and the bobbin on top is the match!!! Let's face it my eyes aren't getting any younger and this will be one less thing I have to "think" about!!!

Used all 40 and am ordering 20 more. Need only 10 - but will have 10 for the future.

I am taking these to my next longarm guild meeting (in January) and bragging about these!! I LOVE THEM!!!

Good morning!!
I want to share with you what the hubby has been working on. I know I have mentioned the Bobbin Mates before, http://www.camlynquilts.com/Bobbin-Mate.html but these are about the coolest things since soft ice cream. I love mine!!!! Keeps my bobbins with the correct color cone!!
He has just finished loading our EZ Quilt Display system on to our website too, http://www.camlynquilts.com/EZ-Quilt-Display-System.html. These are so easy to use and give you a great way to hang your quilts... Can be used for the juried quilts, book publications and we also found that it makes a great design wall that can be taken down when not in use.
Im off to the studio, have a couple more customer quilts that are calling my name--oh you who, were over here!!! LOL

I finished Sue's quilt just in time for her to do the binding this week end.. This quilt measures 92 x 92. I did my version of "Floopy Flowers" in the middle with some Curly Q's in the orange sashing, followed with Kim Stotsenberg's "Just Leaf It" in the outside border.

I like the way it turned out, think Sue will too...

Isabella!!

I finally finished the binding on Isabella. She's one big lady--105 x 105. She is made from the BQ3 pattern that I bought at Aunt Mary's Quilt Shop. An excellent place for those large prints that we love but hate to cut up. Easy pattern to do too! The picture of the white with quilting on it is the back, almost as pretty as the front. I got to practice lots and lots of feathers on this quilt.

A couple of weeks ago I showed just a couple of blocks on Sadie but today I was taking up coming videos for our website with the EZ Quilt Display System and realized that I hadnt shown a full picture of Miss Sadie... I think she turned out adorable, she will be going on to our website in the next few days, right after we get the videos loaded on the EZ Quilt display system. The more I use the EZ Quilt display the more I like it. Super easy to use and Im finding lots of different uses for it, they will all be in the video. Okay so I cheated a little and used the page that is for our website. But it shows all of the workings of the EZ Quilt Display System. We have found so many uses for this. It can be an instant design wall that goes up easily and then can be taken down when not in use. It is great for taking pictures of customer quilts after we are finished quilting them. When used with the valance model it is great for taking pictures for juried quilts or for book publications. Im loving mine. Check it out at www.camlynquilts.com

My DH has been a busy boy getting photos of our Bobbin Mates and getting correct fits on cones. Who would have ever thunk that there were so many different sizes of cones. We now have perfect fits for Bottom Line, A & E, Glide, Premo Soft, King Tut and many others. Check out our store and browse around. The purple quilt is one that I had to borrow back to get some pictures of it. I love how it turned out. It was my 2nd,3rd or 4th attempt at those kinds of feathers. Its going to be auctioned for the mental handicapped--hope it pulls in some good money for them.

The orange and yellow quilt is a new customers quilt. I just finished it this morning. I did the quilting and also the binding. She squealed when she saw it--I'd have to say she was tickled with it.

The quilt is hanging on our EZ quilt display system. It is one of 4 models that we will have listed online at camlynquilts.com. This one is retractable but we have 3 others in the mix too. So check them out, also look at our selections of Bobbin Mates--I LOVE mine...

This little quilt is a Cleo/Donna quilt. All done in Batiks and with Cleo's new pattern. She will be teaching a class at Aunt Mary's Quilt Shop sometime in the near future. I have to get with her and see if I can borrow the quilt long enough to get some full pictures of it. I got to do feathers and more feathers on it... I am really enjoying the "feather" time.

The first quilt (with the 3 little flowers) Im calling Amelia. These were some of the blocks that I found in moms things. There were enough blocks to make 2 very nice sized lap quilts. The 2nd one is going on the machine this afternoon.

Sadie (Sunbonnet Sue) was made to fill my new passion of needle turn. Love the colors, leftovers from my Giddy Up Go quilt, and I think I have enough left to make another small quilt...

Good morning...

Its been a busy couple of weeks around here. Im posting just a couple of the quilts that I have been working on... Wanted to make special comment about the black, white and purple quilt. This was made by a 15 yr old and she did a great job...It layed perfectly flat and was a breeze to work on.. I quilted the date in to it so in 40 years she could look back and know exactly when it was made--Good job Natalie!!

These are our "Bobbin Mates"... They are so cool. They keep all my bobbins with the coordinating cones. I hate having to dig for bobbins and never knowing if I have the right shade--lol--do you know how many different shades there are in each color...Mind boggling!! Wow, seems like forever since I have posted but it also seems like I have been super busy.. These are a couple of recent customer quilts that I have done. I love the way Kathy's turned out, I am really liking the swirly girl quilting behind the redwork. Teri's quilt was so fun, lots and lots of leaves but I did get the look I wanted, the back picture is a bit blurry but it does show the basic design of what I was trying to achieve.

Launching new website!!

Whew its been a busy week end around here. Darling hubby has been busy getting the finishing touches on our website. We are officially launching this week end. We have several new products coming out for long arm quilting machines. CLASS,under the table storage, is absolutely awesome, I know cause I got the prototype. The base units can be used for cutting tables, ironing boards that can go from 4-12 feet long. The drawers hold up to 100 cones of thread, just for those little thread piggies. We also have Bobbin Mates, which are so cool, keeps the bobbin with the cone so you arent guessing if you have the right color when you want to change colors on your machine. We will have EZQD(Eazy Quilt Display) in the next couple of weeks and Im really liking what Im seeing there. Also have 35 quilts for sale, ranging in sizes from baby to king. Lori's Giraffe

One of my customers saw my Giraffe quilt and wanted to make one too. So I loaned her the pattern and she brought it to me to have it quilted.. Sorry about the picture being funky, new computer program and Im not sure how to crop it yet... The Giraffe is made with minkie and extra batting under so it pops out... It turned out so cute..

Donna's dragon flies!!

Just finished Donna's dragon flies and I really like the way it turned out... I did custom dragon flies in each of the blocks, if there wasnt one to shadow. Then I did some swirly girly type quilting around them . Was told that the dragon flies almost look like trapunto.. It was a fun quilt to do and I think Donna really liked it.. It will be hanging in the QA quilt show in Monroe this week end in Aunt Mary's booth.

I just finished piecing Giddy Up Go... Now on the the Gammill... The blocks were some that I had heard mentioned on FB... Supposed to be a 10 minute block but they actually took a bit longer than that, at least the first couple, I was getting into them by the time I finished the last one... Now I have to do the turning on the centers and then on to the Gammill...

BobbinMate Help

Good morning all,
Hubby is in process of manufacturing a Thread Storage System for primarily quilters of which a base component is "BobbinMate". It allows bobbin with cone/spool storage and additionally holds the thread end. It fits snugly into the cone/spool and is precision cut to the end of the bobbin (fits all bobbins) so they stay together. Keeping the unused portion of thread on the bobbin with mated spool, especially for those threads more commonly used, gives a more efficient and economical option than either looking for a bobbin or removing unused portion of bobbin thread. "BobbinMate" pictures are with an A&E cone (permacore tex 30 6000 yard).

Need empty spools/cones from all manufacturers that we can use to design the BobbinMate and storage systems. Also any input/advise/insight would be welcomed....

They say the older we get the faster time flies--Boy oh Boy do I believe that.... Seems like it was just yesterday that we were looking at 2010, and now tomorrow is 2011.. We will be staying home tonight (let all the other crazies do the going out thing). I am going to load one of my quilts to work on tomorrow. Its a little dump truck quilt. Quick and easy but should be fun to do...

I found out recently that I really enjoy needle turn applique.. This is the second "Hot Diggity Dog" quilt that I have made. I have 9 out of the 12 blocks done... Really getting excited to get it put together and on the Gammill.

Hubby's Stained glass

Darling Hubby has been asked to do a commission piece for his brothers house. This is the beginning of parrot. The actual piece is about 48" tall so he is about half way done. I was so impressed last night when we held it up with lights behind it. It is turning out soooooo awesome....

Okay, I put all this in and it wont let me edit it the way I want, so my captions arent connected to the pictures. Grrrrrr.

This first quilt belongs to Nancy, I love the dwirling and the movement that it gives a quilt.

The Kitty quilt belongs to Penny and it is sooo cute. She did all those little squares, more patience than I have but it turned out awesome..

Beth is a new customer. She was her last year with her mom and saw a D9P that I was working on and went home and created her own, this one is gonna be a gift for a SIL.

Cleo's Christmas trees are just darling...It is a wall hanging that is going to England.

Nancy just came over and picked up her quilts...I have to say I think she truly loved this one (I got 2 hugs).. She had thought about giving it away, but after the quilting she is thinking she may just keep it. I really enjoyed doing the quilting on this. Lots of leaves, leafy hearts and some small stippling...

My Asian Accents

This one is mine, Im calling it Asian Accents. Its made off the QB3 pattern. There are 4 blocks of silk in the center of the quilt with wonderful Asian embroidery on them (thank you Cleo). Its gonna be a week or two before I can get it on the Gammill but am really looking forward to doing it...

I was lucky enough to get to go spend the night with my most favorite Auntie last week end. We did the market and also did some research on an upcoming Art Show. We were both accepted and really looking forward to it. These 2 pictures are just a couple of the many different pieces that Auntie has in inventory. Everything that she does her "ZanyArt" on has been recycled, reclaimed. She let me try to do some dots and I gotta say its darn difficult to get them to look right... Just got this off the Gammill and Im so tickled with the way it turned out. The only thing I would do differently next time is to stitch their little collars in a contrasting color because they dont show up that well. One more to quilt before the Art Festival, and 3 to bind, gonna be a busy girl this week.

Rob's Stained Glass window for our new greenhouse.

In the time that my darling hubby has been off work he has almost completed the most awesome greenhouse. When we replaced windows in the house 2 years ago, he saved them all, now they are all in our green house. On each end of the greenhouse (where the thingy that will automatically open the window) we will have matching stained glass. Really thought the design was appropriate -- fits in with my quilting... Wish my picture was better but it really turned out nice...

Dwirling on Martas quilt...

I recently discovered "Dwirling" from Dawn Rameriz's DVD and I love it... Marta let me Dwirl on her quilt--(lol, that almost sounds nasty!!) Dwirling gives so much movement in the quilt without taking away from the piecing. I love the way this one turned out...

Funny Farm is done!!

Just finished this off yesterday!! Have the binding done too but the pictures here are before binding. The needle turn process was totally new to me but I liked doing it so well that I now have 2 other projects ready to start on... One is a giraffe quilt and the other is a "Weany Dog" quilt... They are gonna be so cute--stay tuned...

The kites are from one of the Buggy Barn books, the "Funny Farm" is a gifted piece to me and it was my first attempt at needle turn, I liked it!! The bottom was also gifted to me but I want to finish it up and return it to her because she is such a sweet lady, just not sewing anymore...

Just finished Judy's DWR, the colors in this quilt are absolutely awesome, and it layed so flat, a joy to quilt it. A flower with curly q's in the center and leaves and curly q's in the rings. It really turned out nice!!

Marta's granddaughters quilt!!

This is one of my favorite customers, and I dont say that just cause she brings me coconut macaroons!!! This is going to her granddaughter for an Easter gift. Bet she loves it!!

I loved working on this quilt, loved all the pinks. We chose to do a floopy flower in the center, with a wispy design in the pink border, followed with more floopy flowers in the outside border. It just turned out so darn cute.

Karen's African baby quilt..

This quilt is from a new customer and I just love it... Some of the fabrics came from Africa, when the Daddy of the new baby was there. The backing is the "softest" leopard minkie I have ever felt, bet "Baby" is gonna love snuggling down with this one.
